Getting started

Your first week

You do not need to configure everything before going live. Here is a sensible order to work through, spread across your first few days.

Before you start

Your agent is created for you by the AbroadMate team during onboarding. When you log in at app.abroadmate.co it is already there, waiting to be shaped.

Day 1 — Log in and look around

  1. Sign in and set your profile

Open Settings, add your name and photo, and change your password if the team gave you a temporary one.
  2. Read the Overview

The Overview screen is your home base. It is empty until conversations start — that is expected.
  3. Open the Playground

Go to the Playground and chat with your agent as if you were a student. This is the safest way to see what it currently knows and how it sounds.

Day 2 — Teach the agent

  1. Add your knowledge

In the Knowledge Base, add your key material: programme lists, fee structures, the documents you require, your process, scholarship information, FAQs. Short, clear entries work best.
  2. Set intake periods and consultants

In Manage Agents, add your intake windows per country and list your human consultants so the AI knows who to direct students to.
  3. Choose the countries you handle

Still in Manage Agents, select the destination countries your agency processes.

Day 3 — Test and refine

  1. Run realistic conversations in the Playground

Ask the awkward questions your students actually ask. Where the answer is weak, go back to the Knowledge Base and fill the gap.
  2. Tune the tone

If replies feel too long or too short, adjust the response length in Manage Agents.

Day 4 — Connect a channel

  1. Start with one channel

In Integrations, connect either your website widget or Facebook Messenger first — both are quick. WhatsApp involves a Meta verification step, so plan a little more time for it.
  2. Watch the first real conversations

Keep the Inbox open and read what comes in. Jump in by hand whenever you want to.

Day 5 — Bring in your team

  1. Invite counsellors

In Team, invite colleagues and set each person’s role.
  2. Agree on a working rhythm

Decide who watches the Inbox, who clears Tasks and Followups each morning, and who reviews knowledge gaps weekly.
  3. Set AI active hours if you want them

In AI Control, you can let the AI cover nights and weekends only, or run it around the clock.

Going live is reversible

If anything feels wrong, you can switch the AI off instantly in AI Control, fix it, and switch it back on. Nothing forces you to leave it running.
