Human handover

The AI is good at the routine. Handover is the mechanism that makes sure a person takes the conversation the moment it stops being routine — without the student noticing a seam.

Two ways it happens

The AI asks for a human

When a student needs something the assistant should not handle alone — a fee negotiation, a document review, an emotional moment, a complaint, or a question it cannot answer confidently — it hands the conversation over. The chat is flagged in the Inbox and the AI goes quiet on it. If the student was already a lead, that contact is also marked so it shows as AI Off.

You step in yourself

Simply replying by hand in a conversation is a handover. The instant your message sends, the assistant pauses on that thread so you are never talking over each other.

While a human has the conversation

  • The AI does not send anything on that thread.
  • Your replies are recorded on the student’s timeline.
  • The AI stays aware of what was said, so if it resumes later it has the context.

Handing back to the AI

After a quiet period the assistant can resume automatically, or you can re-enable it for that student when you are done. On a public Facebook comment thread the AI will not resume on its own — a comment left unanswered in public is worse than a private one, so a person must close it out.

Handover is a feature, not a failure

A conversation reaching a human at the right moment is the system working exactly as intended. The goal is not “the AI handles everything” — it is “your counsellors only spend time where they add value.”
  • Inbox — where flagged conversations appear and where you reply.
  • AI Control — turning the AI off agency-wide rather than per conversation.
